This walk-through covers publishing an eBook or Audiobook through the Book.io Self-Publishing Portal, from account to submission. Screenshots will be added shortly.
Before you start
You need a Book.io account, your finished media file, and a cover image at 4000 x 4000 pixels. Having your descriptions and biography written before you begin makes the process much faster.
Step 1: Type
Choose what you are creating. The Book.io Self-Publishing Portal offers eBook and Audiobook. If you are releasing music, video, a podcast, or a text document, use the Stuff.io Creator Portal instead. A link to the other portal appears on this step.
Step 2: Contents
Upload your media file and fill in the details that will appear on your landing page and in your asset’s metadata. This step covers your title, author name, cover image, secondary store banner, one line metadata description, short and long landing page descriptions, author biography, headshot, genres, language, and adult content declaration.
For file requirements, see EBook Formatting or Audiobook File Formatting. For the full field list, see Required Info for an EBook or Required Info for Audiobooks.
Your progress is saved. If you close the portal and come back on the same device, a window tells you exactly what was restored and which files you need to select again. Files cannot be saved in your browser, so your media file and cover image always have to be re-selected. If you would rather begin again, choose Discard draft in that window.
Step 3: Pricing
Set how many units to create and what each one sells for. You also choose your secondary royalty percentage, which is what you receive on qualifying sales on participating secondary marketplaces. After checkout, we email you a link to set up your payout account; check your spam folder if it does not arrive. You are paid in your local currency, in minimum increments of $50, with your first payment about 60 days from the date your book goes on sale.
Larger unit counts may add a charge on top of the base price. The portal shows this as you choose.
Redemption codes are an optional paid add-on. They let you send your media directly to anyone you choose. They are not a discount and they increase your total: there is a one-time setup charge plus a per-code charge, and the portal shows the full calculation before you continue. Any codes you order are subtracted from the units available for purchase, and the codes are sent to you once your content has been created.
Step 4: Create
Confirm the acknowledgements about your rights to the work, then choose how to pay.
If you pay by credit card, the portal shows what creating the asset will cost before the payment window opens. That amount is shown plus any applicable tax, and before any promotion code is applied. Promotion codes are entered inside the payment window.
If you pay with $STUFF, the amount appears on the payment button. $STUFF payment is not available when you have ordered redemption codes, or above a certain number of units. In those cases the portal asks you to pay by credit card.
After you submit
Your submission goes into the approval and creation queue. Depending on the asset type and the queue, creation can take up to two weeks. We email you when your assets have been generated and are available for sale.
Once your asset is on the blockchain it cannot be changed or recalled, so review your details carefully before you pay.
