George P. Pelecanos, born in Washington, DC in 1957, is a celebrated crime novelist, screenwriter, and producer. Best known for his work on The Wire—which earned him an Emmy nomination—he has authored fifteen crime novels set in DC, including The Big Blowdown and King Suckerman. His short fiction has appeared in Esquire and other collections, and he has written for the Washington Post. Pelecanos has also worked on several films and is a writer for the WWII miniseries The Pacific. He lives in Maryland with his family and continues to write fiction and screenplays.
