Position Overview: Lead Frontend Engineer

Book.io is seeking a highly skilled Lead Frontend Engineer who is enthusiastic about shaping the future of books. As the Lead Frontend Engineer, you will take ownership of our user-facing web interfaces, crafting exceptional user experiences, building and mentoring a frontend team, and collaborating closely with the UX and Engineering teams to design, develop, and implement new features and functionality. While this role will initially involve 100% coding, it will evolve into a 50% coding/50% team leadership role as we continue to grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Frontend Ownership: Assume ownership of our user-facing web interfaces to deliver delightful user experiences.
  • Team Building: Build and lead a proficient frontend team, fostering growth and excellence.
  • Coding Expertise: Utilize your expertise in Typescript, Javascript, Vue, and TailwindCSS to turn mockups into fully functional frontend applications.
  • UX and Engineering Collaboration: Collaborate with UX and Engineering teams to design, develop, and implement new features and functionality.
  • Backend Collaboration: Collaborate with backend developers to design elegant APIs.
  • Future-Proofing: Balance immediate delivery needs with future-proofing and reusable code design patterns.
  • Individual Contribution: While this is a Lead role, initially you will be an Army of One, and will be primarily writing code in preparation for a growing team.
  • Team Leadership: As the team grows, transition into a role with 50% coding and 50% team leadership responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in frontend development, including at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Typescript, Vue, and TailwindCSS.
  • Real-time Updates: Familiarity with designing and debugging real-time two-way updates via websockets.
  • Design and UX: A strong eye for design and user experience.
  • Autonomy: Ability to work autonomously, driven by business needs.
  • Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to design and implement a great user experience.
  • Remote Communication: Effective communication skills in remote work settings (Slack, Hangouts, etc.)

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of at least one blockchain
  • Experience interacting with a browser-based crypto wallet

Position Overview: Lead Mobile Applications Engineer

Book.io is seeking a highly experienced Lead Mobile Applications Engineer who is passionate about shaping the future of books through mobile technology. As the lead mobile applications engineer, you will build one of the most important components to our future adoption: our mobile applications. Your responsibilities will include architecting, building, and testing our mobile applications, working with the backend team to design APIs, and building a top-notch team of mobile engineers. Initially this role will be 100% coding, but will evolve into 50% coding/50% team lead responsibilities as we continue to grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mobile Ownership: Assume ownership of our mobile applications to deliver delightful user experiences.
  • Mobile App Development: Architect, develop, and rigorously test our mobile applications for Android and iOS platforms.
  • Team Building: Build and lead a high-performing mobile engineering team, fostering growth and excellence.
  • API Design Collaboration: Work closely with backend developers to design seamless and efficient APIs for our mobile applications.
  • UX and Engineering Collaboration: Collaborate with UX and Engineering teams to design, develop, and implement new features and functionality.
  • Determination: Super-human stubbornness in the face of certain failure – you will be responsible for getting our apps approved in the various app stores
  • Future-Proofing: Balance immediate delivery needs with future-proofing and the development of reusable code design patterns.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 12 years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Mobile App Development: Expert knowledge in either Android or iOS development, with bonus points for proficiency in both.
  • Technical Familiarity: Knowledge of encryption, data-synchronization, and offline user experiences.
  • Design and UX: A strong eye for design and user experience.
  • Autonomy: Ability to work autonomously, driven by business needs.
  • Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to design and implement a great user experience.
  • Remote Communication: Effective communication skills in remote work settings (Slack, Hangouts, etc.)

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with React Native, as we sunset off of our React Native apps in favor of native applications

Book.io is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of AI/Research and Development (R&D) to lead our efforts in pioneering AI-driven solutions for the world of books. As the Director of AI/R&D, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, overseeing research projects, and spearheading the development of AI-powered products and services that will transform the way people interact with books.

Position Overview: Lead Backend Engineer

At Book.io, we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Lead Backend Engineer to contribute to the evolution of books and literature. As the Lead Backend Engineer, you will assume responsibility for all our backend code, including APIs, background processes, scheduled jobs, and internal systems/applications. Your role will encompass designing, implementing, testing, and scaling backend systems that enhance the user experience. Initially, this position will primarily involve coding but will gradually transition into a role split between coding and team leadership as we expand.

As a Senior Integrations Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in Rust and API design to create robust, efficient, and scalable integration solutions.

Book.io is looking for new Director of User Experience to add to the rapidly growing team. This will be a hands-on role and you will be responsible for helping to create the customer journey through online and mobile applications, layout and design, and working with the engineering team to deliver assets. We are a startup and move quickly so you have to be ok with a fast pace and be self motivated to knock things out. You must have solid experience creating large scale B2C applications on web and mobile.

Location:
On-site preferred in our office north of Dallas, TX, however remote would be considered for the right candidate so long as you are available during business hours in the central time zone.

Book.io is ramping up really fast and the need for increased AI-generated book covers is increasing rapidly. You will work with our design and Author Relations teams to ensure that cover illustrations meet our high standards. We are interested in building a large network of illustrators to be able to offer multiple styles. We are a startup and move quickly so you have to be ok with a fast pace and be self motivated to knock things out. This job would be contract-to-hire to start.

Required knowledge/experience:
* Deep knowledge and experience creating AI-based Images (on your desired platforms)
* Understanding of Adobe Creative Suite and basic production skills
* Typography experience a plus but not mandatory as you can be paired with a Graphic Designer

Location:
Remote or on-site. The core team is based north of Dallas, TX, so while this position can be remote we will need the candidate to be available during business hours in the central time zone.
