Charles A. Lindbergh (1902–1974) became internationally famous for completing the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight in May 1927. Before the flight, he worked as a U.S. Air Mail pilot, and his technical acumen and self-discipline defined both his aviation and literary careers. He remained a central, though sometimes controversial, figure in American history until his death.
