Arthur Edward Waite (1857–1942) was a British scholarly mystic, poet, and member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Known for his deep research into Western occultism, Waite authored numerous books on mysticism, secret societies, and ceremonial magic. He is also co-creator of the famous Rider-Waite Tarot deck, one of the most widely used tarot systems today.
