When Anthony Rogers opened his eyes, the world he knew was gone. Five centuries had passed, and Earth lay in chains beneath the rule of the Han. In the skies, gleaming airships patrol a shattered future; on the ground, scattered rebels fight for freedom with weapons that defy imagination. From the ashes of a fallen civilization, one man will rise to challenge an empire—and ignite the legend of Buck Rogers, one of science fiction’s most enduring heroes. First published in Amazing Stories, this tale propelled readers into a post-apocalyptic America and helped shape the modern space opera genre.

      Description

The story follows Anthony Rogers, a World War I veteran who becomes trapped in a state of suspended animation after a mine accident. Awakening nearly 500 years later, he discovers a drastically changed Earth dominated by the Han.

Rogers joins forces with American rebels living in remote forests, where guerrilla warfare is waged with ingenious new technology, including rocket-powered flight belts and disintegrator rays. Combining speculative science with fast-paced adventure, the novella presents a vivid vision of future warfare, survival, and resistance against oppression. Its influence can be seen across decades of science fiction, from comics and radio serials to blockbuster films.
