Eco-Chain
Maybe Africa...
It’s dying you know! It’s dying right before our eyes. In a few years it could all be gone. Does that mean anything to you?
Eco-chain is a story about African lions and the multitude of challenges they face within their own societies, and from the pressure exerted by a human population that is growing exponentially. Their habitat is diminishing, they are being forced into ever-decreasing fragmented landscapes, and on top of that, they are hunted with sophisticated weaponry in ecological systems that are not always managed responsibly.
The Sukula Research Institute is floundering and under threat from unscrupulous trophy hunters. They need an intervention, a dedicated professional, undeterred and steadfast.
What they get is Bird – a hungover, disaffected washout, enslaved to the demons of his past and oblivious to the stimulants of his present. Bird blunders his way through the African landscape where he finds what he never knew he needed: acceptance by the local people, reawakening of his passion for the natural world, and a brutal fight for something greater than his pitiful self. But can it mend his broken soul? Does he have the resolve to see it through? And will he put this cause above his own indulgent idealism?
Description
We have entered the sixth great extinction of this planet’s history. The loss of habitats, conversion of landscapes and demise of vital ecosystems is unprecedented and relentless. Our measures of economic prosperity that drive GDP growth fail to account for negative impacts on the very systems that support life on earth. We are losing species faster than we can identify, yet our governance systems and global management institutions fail to facilitate meaningful change. The paradigm shift that we have spoken of for decades has to happen now. Systemic change of the global community is required, but who is going to effect it?
